Working Holiday

If you are aged between 18 and 30 years old you may qualify for the Working Holiday Scheme. This allows you to come and work in New Zealand for a year.

Working Holiday visas must be obtained in your own country before you leave, but in some cases you can get a Working Holiday permit in New Zealand. Each country has different regulations.

In Hawke's Bay there are a lot of jobs available from November until the end of June. Most of this is outdoor work or office work. Most of the jobs do not need special skills, and training will be given. Workers can expect to earn about $500.00 less tax for a 40 hour week.

There are many jobs available:

Picking fruit
Packing fruit
Pruning grapes
Milking cows
Childcare or nanny
Tourism
Working in a shop, restaurant or hotel

Other jobs are available all over New Zealand. Some jobs are in summer and some in winter. Some are in the big cities but others in small towns.

English Study

Some students can study English for a maximum of 6 months on this visa. Other students can study for 3 months.

Having good English improves your chance of getting a job as employers like you to understand their instructions. It is helpful before you start work and is important for safety.
